With his side on the brink of reaching a Leinster Junior Cup final, Dundalk Youths boss Alan Browne believes his side possess what it takes to negotiate a tricky semi-final test against St Kevin¡¯s of Dublin.

They take on the decorated schoolboys club¡¯s U17 side, and not the U18 outfit who compete in the DDSL Super with the Lilywhites, at Oriel Park this Sunday with the game kicking off at 2pm.

¡°We really want to win something because we have been doing really well over the last couple of weeks and this game gives us a great opportunity to do that,¡± he commented on the challenge facing his charges.

¡°The home draw in our favour could be crucial because in recent years we haven¡¯t had that luck and have always played these kind of games against the Dublin teams away from home so it will be nice to have that home advantage,¡± he added before acknowledging that the test his side face will be a difficult one.

¡°We know that being a St Kevin¡¯s team they are going to be a good side, very well-drilled and very organised but I am Nike Tiempo Legend IV fully confident in my players. It will be a hard one to call but on our day, I think we can beat anyone and I really believe that.¡±

It is the St Kevin¡¯s team in their own league (the U18s) that look set to pip Dundalk to the post in the race for league honours with the Dubliners having three games in hand on their Louth rivals.

Although the Lilywhites do currently sit top of the table a point ahead, it would take a minor miracle for Kevin¡¯s to fail to pick up the points required to claim the championship Cheap Nike Football Boots and therefore this competition could represent Dundalk¡¯s last reasonable chance at silverware.

Browne continued: ¡°They have won their Nike CTR360 Maestri III AG last couple of games and have games in hand so the league looks to be theirs.

¡°Unfortunately, it took until the second half of the season for us to get things going and we dropped some silly points at the start against teams we were much stronger than on paper which is disappointing.¡±

Performances like their 3-0 quarter final annihilation of Shamrock Rovers do show the form they are in.

¡°Start to finish that day, we were excellent. It was our best performance of the season and to beat a Shamrock Rovers team in the manner we did, when you sit back and think about it, is something very impressive.¡±
